This activity works on several fine motor skills…cutting, folding, gluing and handwriting. It also helps with sequencing and following multi-step directions.

Directions
 
– Make
copies of the template on construction paper. 
 
– Have
child cut out the hearts.

– Assemble
the fish as shown using glue.

– Fold
another piece of construction paper in half to make a card.

– Glue
fish to the card.

– Have
child write a special Valentine’s message inside the card.
 
 

Variations:
– If child hasn’t developed cutting skills yet, you can help them by doing
hand-over-hand cutting or cut them out yourself and let them do the gluing.

– The
special message can be copied or traced for children who are just beginning
handwriting.
